North Carolina Title Loan

Congratulations to the University of Connecticut Men's Basketball Team and Head Coach Jim Calhoun for defeating Butler University to win the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I National Championship this past Monday evening. For Calhoun, who is in his 25th year at Connecticut, it was his third national title, vaulting him into the college basketball stratosphere, making him one of only a handful of Division I coaches to win at least three national championships. Calhoun also became the oldest head coach to win the NCAA Division I basketball title, who is one month shy of his 69th birthday.

Calhoun's Myriad Health Problems

There has been talk that Calhoun would step down after this season if the program was able to win the national title. He has, more than once, taken a leave of absence from the team to address a variety of health concerns, including the diagnosis of prostate cancer in 2003, which resulted in his prostate being removed. Furthermore, he broke five ribs in 2009 after falling off of his bike during a charity bicycle race. However, he did not miss any game time after that particular injury, as the charity event took place in June of that year.

Allegations Of Impropriety At UConn Reach Conclusion

Nevertheless, it may be another matter entirely that could hasten Calhoun's decision to retire, if he in fact chooses to do so this year. He and the men's basketball program were cited by the NCAA for a series of infractions stemming from their recruitment of Nate Miles, who was a standout high school basketball player in North Carolina back in 2008. The investigation by college sports' governing body handed down this past February a number of different punishments and restrictions, most notably the three-game suspension that Calhoun must serve at the beginning of next season's Big East Conference play.
